A few peeps I know have mentioned to me that this Chinese spot in Rivertowne Shopping Center has super-fresh food, cheap drinks and is a good place to eat-in or carry-out. Not feeling cooking Thursday night, I stopped in and ordered some carryout. Honestly, the place looks like an old-school Chinese restaurant that you would see in a movie. Haha! I walk in and man is behind the counter taking orders--but the cashier space also doubles as the BAR! I mean, there are no bar stools or anything or anyplace to sit at said bar. But it is well stocked with everything from beer, to top shelf vodka, cognac and scotch. And each and erry drink on the menu is: $3.75. Needless to say, while I sat and waited for my order I slurped down a Stoli and Tonic with a lemon slice because they didn't have lime. The drink was quite heavy on the Stoli, and that was all good with me as I chilled and reveled on my $3.75 cocktail:) There were about 20 guests in the dining room having dinner and there was table service/ a waiter. I thought to myself that this would def be a place I would bring the hubs and kiddies for a casual meal--basically so I could take advantage of the drinks! :) So on to the food. Basically, it was just OK. Not bad. Just OK. We had the double-cooked pork, general tso shrimp, pork fried rice, egg rolls and barbecue spare ribs. The shrimp were probably the best item, but the portion was quite small. For Chinese in my 'hood I still much prefer Good East Carryout ( yelp.com/biz/good-east-c… ). But again, because of the deal on cocktails (which bumped this to 3 stars) I will likely give this place another shot for sit-down service.

My co-workers and I love this place, and it's a regular on the lunch rotation schedule. It's fast, the food is fresh, and there is no place that can beat its prices for the quality it provides.

This place is still great. I'm surprised they've been able to stay here, since Rivertowne has lost many patrons once the movie theater closed. Anyways the food is awesome, fresh and hot.

I just tried to order for delivery and instead of letting me finish my order I kept getting put on hold. $12 min for any deliveries I understand but with out a menu I had no idea what the prices were. I was soo rushed off the phone I cancelled the order.

Delicious Chinese food for two, including hot tea, an eggroll, and a cup of soup came to a mere $14. Add in the 1970s-style Chinese restaurant decor and you have a hit (though I didn't like the big TVs overlooking the dining room; this isn't a sports bar).

The food was delicious and really affordable. They delivered to our hotel within 30 minutes! I fed 2 adults, 4 large teenage boys for $64 and didn't have to go out or wait in line!!! Portions were huge!!! Thanks Beijing Hunan!!!

The food was good but the service was terrible. Perhaps they were short of help, but they had one server for the dining room. There were 3-4 tables but he just couldn't keep up. Additionally, we ordered drinks from the bar which we never received.

I had a craving for Chinese food and hoped that this restaurant would satisfy my taste for noodles and garlic sauce. Unfortunately, this place missed the mark. I picked up my meal, prepared my plate of hot, steamy lo mein and general tso's chicken when I arrived at home, only to be disappointed by an overwhelmingly salty and over fried dinner. I'm sure other reviewers caught the chef on a good day. I, however, will continue my search for a quality Chinese restaurant and/or I will just make a special trip to Virginia in the future.

If you want to experience a great semi fine dining (American style) Chinese cuisine, go here. The restaurant is nicely decorated with Chinese furniture with lots of red throughout like the linen napkins and chairs. It reminded me so much of my childhood when we used to go with my family to a sit down Chinese dinner. Service was wonderful and the food came out hot and fresh and seasoned very well. I was a little disappointed that the rice came out in individual rice bowls; I was hoping for a family style rice. There are lot of dishes to choose from including a family meal which you order depending on the number of people in your group. It comes with your choice of soup, appetizer of egg rolls and pork ribs, hot tea, and entrees. There were 4 of us and ordered 4A: sweet and sour delight (pork, chicken, shrimp), Hunan beef, schechuan shrimp, and chicken and snow peas with bamboo shoots. The server was very nice, informed us on status of food, he kept the table cleared, and refilled water/tea. He even took 10 percent off the bill. Looked like a lot of people here do takeout but dining here is a great experience especially with family or groups.

There's a reason this place has been here for so long. I have been eating at Beijing Hunan for the better part of my life im 24 BTW. The food is consistently good and the service is there to match. It's the only place ill eat Chinese food from, the other local spots seem a little sketchy. I love their fried rice, what's great is that they don't overdue it with oil you don't have a pool of grease waiting for you at the bottom of the carton. Dont hesitate to check this place out they have been in RiverTowne thru the good (present) & the ugly (last 10 years).

I attempted to order food from this resturant last night. As I finished placing my order I told the man taking my order that I would prefer to pay by credit card. He rushed me through giving my billing information and then asked me for my credit card statement address on top of requesting my billing zip code. I have never had a Chinese carrying ask me for this info and because of the location I was hesitant to provide any further information. I declined to give him the info and cancelled my order. He was very rude and slammed the phone down in my ear. This morning I checked my account and saw that the restaurant had in fact charged me after I cancelled the order and received no food. I called my bank and the told me I had to call the restaurant back first and attempt to get them to refund the money. So....I called the restaurant back and the man answered, I explained the situation but before I could finish the man started screaming that he didn't charge me and he wasn't giving me anything (my money back). I tried to explain further what my bank stated and that my the money had been taken out of my account. I asked to speak to the manager and he started screaming that he was the owner. The man told me that customers call all the time complaining that they were over charged or charged multiple times and he never refunds any money. That means he's grown accustomed to taking people's hard earned money and not refunding them. He then screamed into the phone that I need to stop payment with my bank and that I was to never call his establishment again...then for the second time he slammed the phone down in my ear. I am beyond displeased and HIGHLY recommend that you do not patron here. Not only because of this issue but because of the rude attitude and loach of professionalism and customer service. I now have to take further action and waste time attempting to collect the funds owed to me with no help from the restaurant or owner. BEWARE!!!

This is hands down my favorite Chinese carry out in the county. AND the only Chinese carry out I'd actually eat-in. Recently, after taking a long and unwanted hiatus from this place (only because I moved), I came back here with my family for a sit down dinner. We ended up having a very pleasant meal and dining experience from beginning to end. Our server was timely and sociable. Our food was piping hot and oh so delicious. I ordered the Hunan Shrimp with just brocolli and extra spicy. This is the same thing I've ordered from this place since the early 2000s when I was first introduced to this little slice of Chinese culinary excellence. And its just as consistently good as it was back then. My brother ordered the seafood combination which had a white sauce and seemed like a very adventurous choice to me. But it was very tasty and fresh. My mother ordered a couple of whiskey sours. And I had to stop her from getting even more than that. I don't know if they tasted great or if she just liked the price ($3.00). Either way, she seemed satisfied as well. Get ready for a taste bud tease that far surpasses the cheap prices. We all left very pleased. As another reviewer mentions, the decor inside is very much out of a scene from Booty Call (a 90s movie). It's kind of comical and feels a bit surreal. Definitely, not upscale though. So don't come looking for that.

So I saw this place had great reviews so I stopped by to see what was up. I ordered the bbq spare ribs that came with no bbq lol It was still good! Crispy to my liking and they were beef and not pork. I then ordered the shrimp and broccoli just to be safe. I asked for extra sauce and got a sarcastic amount!! Hahah I laughed when it got to the table. It was good though!! I sifted through my river of sauce and got what I needed. I was worried I wouldn't receive "real" shrimp but my shrimp was sooooo real that the intestinal track was still on the back! Which I realized when I was on my last three shrimp. YOU GOTTA CLEAN THE SHRIMP! The last thing I'll say is: 1.) BBQ Ribs 2.) Wonton Soup 3.) Shrimp n Broc 4.) Hunan Shrimp All was $23.55. CHEAP EATS!! Clean those damn shrimp!

I like this place. It's pretty low key and casual which made it a great place to have a laid back impromptu dinner on a Friday night. The decor is pretty basic. The service was very timely and accurate. The portions are HUGE, ridiculously huge:). Most of the chicken in my General Tso's was edible, like 85%, haha...that means a lot to me. My planters punch was nice and strong and the menu is very inexpensive.

Pros: Use fresh ingredients. No MSG. Cater to requests for light use of oil and salt. Orders are prepared quickly. Quaint decor that includes a carp fish tank. Cons: N/A

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
